We’ve just finished Easter services this weekend. For me, Good Friday is the most sacred of days on the Christian calendar – on which we remember Christ’s death as an atonement for our sins.
Hebrews 13:12-13 says
So Jesus also suffered outside the gate to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the reproach He endured.
In Leviticus 16, the Aaronic ritual of atonement required two goats to be presented before the Lord. One was sacrificed as a sin offering – bearing the judgment of sin by fire. On the other, the High Priest would lay hands on its head to represent the transferring of all the sins of Israel onto the animal – and then the goat would be sent outside the camp – symbolic of the sins of the people being removed.
Only in Jesus – the Lamb of God – was this fulfilled once and for all.
And so, it’s been an honour for me to lead worship in Faith Community Church over the last 2 years on Good Friday.
Good Friday 2024
For our Good Friday 2024 set, I used two violins to add to the sombreness and weight of the moment (we don’t normally have violinists on our Sunday team). Here is the setlist:
- Scripture Reading – Isaiah 53
- When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (D-E)
- Alabaster Heart (E)
- Thank You Jesus for the Blood (A)
- Agnus Dei (A)
- Prayer by Ps Benny Ho
Things reached a crescendo with Agnus Dei as the the congregation was moved to keep singing at the top of their voices “Holy, holy are you Lord God Almighty / Worthy is the Lamb…”
Here is the recording of that set.
And here is a Youtube video done by our media team of “Thank You Jesus for the Blood”.
Good Friday 2025
For Good Friday 2025, our team was tasked with leading two sets of worship: one at the start of the service, and the other after Holy Communion.
We tried doing a “hymn heavy” service which focused on the work of the Cross and then spoke of the peace which Christ’s afflictions brought us.
Here is the setlist:
Set One
- Were You There When They Crucified my Lord? (D)
- Nothing but the Blood of Jesus (D)
- Thank You for the Cross (G)
- My Saviour’s Love (I Stand Amazed) (G)
Set Two
- Communion by Ps Dan Yan
- Great is Thy Faithfulness (C)
- ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (C)
- It is Well With My Soul (C)
- Because of Jesus (A)
Here are the recordings of the sets.

I hope this blesses you.
